Edisto River at Good Hope Landing
Edisto River at Good Hope Landing

This post will be one that is continually updated based on the health of the landings and the water ways. These are my opinions and observations and, as such, may differ from popular opinions.

Here are my top three landings:

Good Hope Landing (aka Norman's Landing) is located off McDanieltown Road and is part of the main body of the Edisto River in an unincorporated part of Colleton County, South Carolina.

Good Hope Landing features a single boat ramp, ample parking and plenty of riverbank access for fishing from the shore. This particular landing is known for Shad, Redbreast, Bass, Brim and Catfish; however, it is not uncommon to catch River Trout in or near briny areas.

Aside from fishing and boating, Good Hope Landing is a popular place to put in for "tubing" or "rafting" down the Edisto River. There are no amenities and camping is not allowed.

City Landing (aka Orangeburg City Boat Landing) is located off Andrew Dibble Road on the North Edisto River in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

City Landing features a single boat ramp, ample parking, a separate kayak or canoe launch/docking area and plenty of riverbank for fishing and hiking. City Landing is a popular site for taking lunches and strolling under the shaded tree canopies. Wildlife is easily seen as City Landing is across the street from Edisto Memorial Gardens and Horne's Wetlands Park. There is a boat dock beside the Gazebo off the boardwalk running through Horne's Wetlands Park that can easily be accessed from the North Edisto River.

City Landing is known for the bass tournament that takes place during the Rose Festival around Mother's Day. The portion of the North Edisto River tends to be shallow and boats may require portage due to the tangle of roots and fallen trees. Skill and preparation are needed to navigate this fork of the Edisto River.

There are no amenities or camping allowed.

Cuckhold's Creek Landing is not GPS friendly. Cuckhold's Creek Landing is located near White Hall Road and Combahee Road behind Ebeneezer CME Church on the Combahee River near Whitehall, South Carolina.

Cuckhold's Creek Landing features a single boat ramp with modest parking and ample riverbank access for fishing. This landing is suitable for small boats or canoes/kayaks due to water levels.

It is a very popular site for locals due to the fact that it is not GPS friendly and is off the beaten path. Cuckhold's Creek Landing is known for the Rock Fish, Mudfish and the birds of prey hunting the waters.

This is an older, underdeveloped boat landing with no amenities or camping allowed.

As with any river outing, make sure to check the weather and water levels before putting in. Be sure to stow proper gear and water safety items. Make sure to follow all state and local ordinances. For information on laws and ordinances visit the SCDNR website.
